In the 14th century according to the Emperor Karl VI order to the east of Prague the fields for vineyards were allocated with special prices for winemakers. Vineyards existed till the end of the 18th century when they were displaced buy expensive villas and land allotments. The 19th century became the period of an active development of the area, when Czech aristocracy and entrepreneurship started an active construction of local area. In 1879 Vinohrady gained the status of a city due to its increased population. It existed independently till 1922, when the big Prague was established. Unlike the neighboring Zizkov, where unpretentious and poor people lived, the inhabitants of Vihohrady could afford expensive architectors (many of them lived in Vinohrady as well), spacious apartments and pompous public buildings, most of them had been reconstructed and even today they please the eye. Beer scene of Vinohrady has its specifics, offering not only beer of the giant corporations, but also beer of the small breweries from all over the Czech Republic, as well as craft beer.
Our beer tour will start at Vinohrady market. Then we will wander from one beer place to another along the astonishing architectural and beer sanctuary to enjoy hidden melodies of the past centuries.
